If there’s one thing I love it’s finding classy home bargains on a budget. Seriously, who wants to buy one expensive decorating essential when you can come away with a shopping trolley full for the same price?
Perhaps surprisingly, the supermarkets have been majorly upping their homewares game: gone are the tacky pieces of tat, replaced by on-trend pieces that wouldn’t look out of place in the most fashionable of homes.
My secret treasure trove at the moment is Asda. Yep, you read right. Not only has style icon Louise Redknapp had just released a range under the George brand, but they’ve got some seriously cool SS/20 stuff in store and online right now.
Here are a few of my favourite picks…
Above is the adorable geometric planter and wooden base in my absolute favourite colour at the moment, dusky pink, a stylish snip at £12 (sold out on line but still available in some stores – you can check stock availability online first). It’s no secret I have an incurable house plant addiction, I’m imagining this with a leafy green fern or a chunky succulent.
And how cute are these animal line drawings? In my opinion, a room never looks truly finished until you’ve put up some wall art. An absolute bargain at just £18 for all three, these prints would look perfect on a Scandi-style nursery or child’s bedroom – or any bedroom, for that matter.
Storage does not have to be boring. I’ve always battled with how to keep the girls toys tidy – especially when they had a gajillion Beanie Boo teddies – but a couple of these seagrass belly baskets would have sorted it out with style.
These are also great pot covers for your houseplants – perfect for a big tangled Monstera, or a lanky rubber plant. At just £10 each, you could literally get one for every room.
Growing up, my Dad was a pilot in the airforce and one of my favourite memories is him naming somewhere he’d flown to, which I then had to find on our old globe. Maybe it’s the traveller in me that loves them so much, but to me globes represent adventure and excitement and the intrigue of new and unexplored places.
This 28cm tall copper globe is a great way to dream about your next getaway and a gorgeous decorating item too – a sophisticated touch for your lounge or study, for just £15.
I’ve always been a sucker for mustard yellow and have my eye on these these 50cm x 50cm textured cushions to liven up our outside living space (warmer weather IS coming soon, right?!). They’re not strictly designed for outdoors, but can sit on our kitchen-diner sofa when we’re not using them outside, and at £10 each they’re too good a bargain not to snap up.
How lovely is this intricately painted Mandala Hurricane Lamp? At at petite 19cm tall this can house a candle, double as a vase or just make the prettiest pen holder. And the best news is, it’s just £6 – such great value I’m tempted to pick up a couple to keep aside for gifts.
With such a huge range of classy home bargains on a budget, you really don’t have to break the bank to beautify your home.
