THROWING IN THE TOWEL // the sand-free tesalate beach towel + your chance to win one, worth £45!

Sure, we might be waving goodbye to summer (cue wails of ‘Don’t goooooooooo!) but that doesn’t mean we have to give up on our beach dreams altogether.

There are winter sun holidays to book (speaking of which, did you read about our family holiday to Bali?), and it’s never too early to start planning for next summer, right?!

I grew up in New Zealand where the beaches are basically in your back garden, so most of my childhood memories revolve around the seaside. I used to love swimming in the ocean, but the sand? Not so much.

It may look pretty on postcards but in real life sand just isn’t that fun – especially when it sticks to your damp towel and turns it into a giant sheet of sandpaper, sloughing off the top layers of your skin every time you lie down. In fact, whenever I think of the beach I picture myself constantly shaking out my towel (and copping a face full of it every time the wind changed direction).

The concept of a fast-drying, super-absorbent designer beach towel immediately grabbed my attention. The fact that the TESALATE range also came in a range of eye-catching, contemporary patterns (with a clever double-sided design) further piqued my interest, but then came the clincher: these large towels are made from a revolutionary microfibre textile that actually repels sand. Genius!

They were the brainchild of Australian beachgoers Jacky Lam and Volkan Ozbek, who – fed up with lugging their gritty, sodden beach towels home after a day out – decided there HAD to be a better way. Over the next 18 months they researched the idea and refined their design, before launching the Tesalate range at the Bondi Beach Markets.

In the first year, their game-changer beach towels were sold to over 70 countries.

But they aren’t just perfect for seaside adventures, the lightweight – almost silky – design absorbs up to a litre of water, yet dries in half the time of regular towels. They become ultra compact when folded or rolled, making them ideal for travelling, swimming pools, even yoga practice. The gorgeous designs (there are 25 to choose from) mean they wouldn’t even look out of place worn like wraps, once the sun dips for the day.

They can be washed in cold water and and even come with a handy built-in hook to hang them up afterwards. They truly are the Rolls Royce of beach towels.

I can talk about the Tesalate range all day long, but the best way to truly discover how great they are is to try one out yourself… which is why I’m giving you the chance to win your very own towel, in this stunning Bohemian pattern, worth £45.
