The clocks are going back in just over a week and I can’t wait!
I know that might elicit a gasp of horror from some, but I actually love the dark evenings – tucked up inside with cosy blankets, and fluffy pillows and scented candles flickering.
Even after 16 years of living in the UK I love the novelty of the evenings closing in (even in the depths of winter the sun doesn’t disappear until gone six o’clock in New Zealand), and the dark skies just fit this time of year so brilliantly – a spooky backdrop for Halloween, a dark canvas to illuminate on Guy Fawkes Day, and the perfect complement for sparkling Christmas lights.
A little while back I was sent given the chance to review Styleboxe, an innovative new company that helps you create stunning but affordable party and wedding centrepieces at home. In this Pinterest generation, it’s no longer good enough to slap down a few platters of cheese and pineapple skewers – people expect Instagram-worthy gorgeousness at every turn. The pressure for prettiness is real.
Oftentimes I know what I like and I know what looks good, I just have no idea how to actually achieve that look. Which is where Styleboxe comes in. Their creative team has handpicked beautiful interiors pieces from all over the world to create a range of stylish table settings, which are then carefully boxed up and delivered to your door. All you have to do is go on to their website, select your favourite look, and let them know how many sets you require (ie: how many tables you need to dress).
Once they arrive you simply need to unpack it and create your own perfect party look. It’s like having your very own stylist, without the exorbitant price tag.
After long and careful deliberations, I finally decided on the URBAN COPPERS set, above, which consists of four baroque-style candlesticks, two round glass votives with a copper base, two small and one large square vase, both with a mirrored patinae, and a wooden table number.
For a set price of £64.99 (there’s a wide range of sets and prices, from £19.99, right through to £74.99) your Styleboxe includes everything you need to create your table setting, including a guide to help you style the elements to perfection – a professional finish, for a pocket-friendly price.
As you can see from the photo above, the website had styled the set beautifully with deep green succulents, white lisianthus flowers and sprigs of rosemary, but I wanted to give it my own twist and decided that the warm copper was just crying out for a classic autumnal look.
I’d been collecting brightly coloured autumn leaves with the girls, so decided to include them in my setting (see the very top photo), along with some pinecones we’d gathered last winter. I filled the vase with white silk roses and put lit tea lights in both the votives and the small vases.
Finally, I twisted some twinkly fairy lights around the large vase to give it some extra sparkle.
Then I experimented with some other looks – twisting in some ivy tendrils to add more colour, then removing the centrepiece vase and replacing it with a vibrant orange pumpkin (top photo) to give it a seasonal twist.
Which is your favourite look?
