I’ve always tried to teach the girls not to take themselves too seriously.
Kiwis are notoriously self deprecating (if you’re over-sensitive you won’t survive long in the Land of the Long White Cloud!) and I love that the girls are able to laugh at themselves.
And that’s why I knew they would LOVE the new Pie Face Sky High game.
We’d already tried the traditional version, which had resulted in screams of laughter (and a very messy floor for Mummy to clean up), but this one gives a snazzy new twist to the Pie Face theme. It’s based around an old carnival-style ‘High Striker’ – the strongman game where you have to whack the base with a mallet and try to ring the bell at the top.
Except with Pie Face Sky High it’s not a bell you ring, it’s a face you splat.
First you need to put the frame together (it stands about three-feet tall). Next you pull back the throwing arm, click it into position and pile it high with cream (we used canned cream – remember not to put on TOO much, or it will just slide right off!).
The first victim – I mean player – then stands behind the frame and peers through the face hole. The game has three different difficulty settings, and a spinner that tells you how many hits you’re allowed.
Big Sis was first up, with Lil Sis wielding the mallet. When the hand released, sending the whipped cream straight into her schnozz, the two of them fell about laughing.
I opened my mouth, ready to tell them: ‘Don’t get it in your hair!’, but then shut it again. Because life is far too short to worry about getting your hair messy, right? Besides, that’s what shampoo is for…
