They say necessity is the mother of invention, and that’s certainly true for Angela Langford.
She was living in Gibraltar at the time and lamenting the fact she no longer had access to the great quality skincare she took for granted in the UK. So she decided to do something about it.
A passionate and talented cook (she actually reached the final week of Masterchef 2014), she took the skills and knowledge she used for recipe development, and – taking top-quality ingredients such as almond oil, rosehip, chia seeds and juniper – blended them to create her own bespoke range of organic skincare.
What began as a quest to create something just for herself quickly grew a life of its own as family, then friends, clambered for samples of her all-natural (organic where possible), cruelty-free products.
As her passion grew, she was lucky to get training from one of the industry’s leading natural skincare experts.
Now, five years later, a growing number of women are falling in love with Angela self-named natural skincare brand, which is now a family-run business based in her childhood home of Somerset.
Every aspect of production is overseen by Angela herself – from handpicking and testing the natural raw ingredients, to the design of the packaging (the delicate dandelion clock logo is based on a favourite card her mother gave her), and even responding to customer queries.
If you’re unsure whether her natural skincare range will work for you, she even offers a free sample pack to new customers; register and provide some details about your skin and Angela will personally select some trial-sized products for you to ‘try before you buy’.
I was sent a bottle of the Thirsty Work ultra-hydrating, anti-ageing moisturiser to try out. This product blends rosehips and raspberries with chia seeds and argan to improve elasticity and protect your skin from damage; vitamins A & C are added to antioxidants Q10 and arctic blackcurrants to improve the appearance of fine lines, while hyaluronic acid plumps and hydrates your skin.
The packaging was simple and elegant, with a pump top dispenser. The cream was luxuriously thick and straight away my senses were filled with the most delicious fruity floral scent. As I massaged it into my face my naturally dry skin seemed to drink in the cream, absorbing it quickly with no greasy residue.
I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and my skin feels soft and hydrated and visibly appears dewier. I love the thickness of the cream – great for my ‘mature’ skin – and the smell is just divine. The only downside is that it doesn’t contain SPF, but this product is so gorgeous I’d be happy to apply a separate suntan lotion.
