Everywhere I go recently, people have been complaining about the dark evenings, and the plunging temperatures. But I’ll let you into a little secret…
I kinda love that winter is on its way.
Because cold weather and dark nights mean I have the perfect excuse to turn up the central heating, snuggle up on the sofa and forget about the world outside.
Saturdays nights are brilliant now the girls are a bit older, and can really join in with everything OH and I do. Don’t get me wrong – I still love the odd night out, but these days my idea of heaven is staying in with a bottle of sauvignon blanc (New Zealand, of course), a thick ribeye steak and X-Factor cued up on the telly.
The girls put on their fluffy onesies while I pop some popcorn and OH turns on the surround sound. We used to have a corner sofa, but it had seen better days and wasn’t particularly comfy, so OH and I would sit up there while the girls stretched out on the floor in front of us.
But then DFS invited us to try a sofa from their amazing range; there were so many great styles, but as soon as I saw this Flint 4-seater sofa in charcoal, I knew it was perfect for our family and our home.
A couple of weeks later (they’re hand made to order) our fabulous fabric sofa arrived. Then, a hiccup – our internal door frames were too narrow to fit the sofa through. Sigh. But then our wonderful delivery men went completely above and beyond, and actually lifted it up and over our garage roof and into the back garden so they could carry it through the bifold doors at the back. Phew.
Straight away it looked amazing – I adored the contemporary geometric shape, and the charcoal looked great against the lighter grey of our walls. It even matched the yellow cushions I already had. Fate.
It was incredibly comfortable, and I loved the way we could adjust the two bolster cushions that came with the sofa (I preferred it as extra arm support, while OH liked it behind his back). You could even take them away altogether to make even more room.
Not that we needed it, as this had plenty of space to easily fit all four of us.
So last Saturday night we all snuggled up together to watch X-Factor. We munched on popcorn, sang along to the songs, laughed at Honey G’s antics and shouted at the judges. Best night ever.
‘The only thing that could make this better,’ I said to OH afterwards, when the girls were in bed and we were stretching out, ‘Would be the matching footstool.’
He looked at me and I looked at him. Then we went online and ordered the matching footstool. Roll on the next weekend!
