Being a complete photoholic who documents every other nanosecond on my trusty camera, I crossed my fingers and prayed that pic number 10 would not involve a) unseemly drunkeness; b) ridiculous face pulling; 3) any kind of swimsuit/bare white legs shot.
I actually lost all my on-line pics a while back, when my computer exploded, so my current files only go back a few years. So here it is:
That’s me, in the bright red survival suit, bobbing amongst the icebergs. I’m somewhere in the Gulf of Bothnia, off the coast of Finland. Why? I hear you ask. Well, in Feb 2007 BB (before baby), I was lucky enough to go on an amazing press trip to Finnish Lapland.
I got to snowmobile, eat reindeer, stay overnight in the Snow Castle, and go on a snowshoe safari to see the Northern Lights (which, FYI, never bloody appeared). I also wangled a cruise on a decommissioned icebreaker called the Sampo, which was an unforgettable experience. The ship cleaved through ice up to one-metre thick, then we were given the chance to swim in the shattered trail of ice behind it. Sounds impossible, right? But those survival suits are crazy good at insulating – I seriously didn’t even feel the cold. They also keep you uber-bouyant, so I was bobbing about like a human cork. This is me before I managed to regain some control over my body:
Yeah, not so cool, this one.
