Many moons ago I had a weekly subscription to Jackie magazine, which was exciting for several reasons – firstly, because my name was also Jacqui (hello? A match made in heaven!) and also because it was flown all the way from the UK to my then home in New Zealand, which made it – and me – exotic and cool (in my own mind).
I’d wait impatiently all week before practically running to the newsagent each Thursday to grab my new copy, flicking straight to the back to see if the music poster was Nik Kershaw, Bananarama or The Thompson Twins.
Anyway, the point of this trip down memory lane – besides totally giving away my age – is to point out how exciting it is to look forward to a regular treat when you’re a kid; something that arrives with your name on the front, and contains goodies that have been carefully selected just for you.
Kid’s subscription boxes have been popular for a couple of years now, but FRED’S BOX stood out from others I’d seen. You can choose from two different styles – an Ooshie box (cute collectable mini-figures that double as pencil toppers), or Fred’s Mystery Box – a carefully curated box of age-appropriate goodies, including a reading book, a set of trading cards, an Ooshie and a number of mystery gifts (dependent on the size of the box you subscribe to).
I loved the fact you could tailor both kids’ subscription boxes for your child, including age range and theme for the Ooshies boxes (which come in different sizes), and the age, reading age and gender for Fred’s Mystery Box.
The girls were sent a sample of the Mystery Box and were thrilled to disover all these goodies inside: a glow-in-the-dark fidget spinner, a Biff, Chip & Kipper book, a Minions keyring and stretchy bracelet, a set of trading cards, a Fred’s Box pencil and design-your-own postcards, and an Ooshie Wonder Woman pencil topper.
This brilliant new addition to the world of kids’ subscription boxes was inspired by seven-year-old mini-figurine fanatic, Fred who loved to receive ‘old-school’ mail and wanted to share that same excitement with other children. With a teensy bit of help from Mum, Clare, Fred’s Box launched in January of this year.
Just like all the other subscribers, Fred receives his parcel once a month and has no idea what’s inside until he opens it up to reveal the mystery contents, or which Ooshies are inside.
And here’s your chance to try it out for yourself, because I’m giving away a three-month subscription to Fred’s Mystery Box. What’s inside? Well, you’ll just have hope to win, wait for the parcel to drop through your mailbox, open it up and see.
