I always look forward to relaxed pace of the school holidays, but does anyone else find the moment you slow down, everything catches up with you?
By the time this half term rolled around I was feeling really drained, and keeping up with girls (who always have a boundless reservoir of energy) was a struggle. It made me feel guilty, as I wanted to be doing more with them, but just couldn’t shake the lethargy.
Life is hectic at the best of times, but juggling work commitments is even trickier when the girls are off school. So it was perfect timing when I was invited to receive a Berocca Power Pack, to give me an extra boost over the school holidays.
Berocca contains eight different B vitamins, which encourage the release of your natural energy reserves, and enhance your physical and mental performance.
Erm, yes please!
I started taking a Berocca each morning after brekkie; I’m sure the extra hour in bed each morning has helped too, but I have definitely had more get up and go – so much so, the girls and I headed to our local woodlands today for a scavenger hunt (you might have read about the time we went DEN MAKING).
The girls took turns picking a card from the pile, revealing the prompt, then they rushed off to find the item. They were literally screaming with excitement as they rushed off, competing with each other to find the treasure first.
I did my best to keep up, but even with my extra Berocca boost I couldn’t keep up with those energetic little legs – especially when they kept diverting to climb trees, and explore mossy knolls, and marvel over twisted tree stumps.
But I loved watching them rushing about, exploring the woods and not worrying about the fact they were getting dirty along the way. It was such a gorgeous day – sunny, but not uncomfortable hot – and the light coming through the tree leaves was just so stunning.
‘Mum!’ Big Sis yelled. ‘I love it here, this is SO MUCH FUN!’
Even Lil Sis, who’d insisted on wearing a summer dress and gold ballet pumps (our resident fashionista) got stuck in.
We must have played for over an hour, until I finally had to wind the hunt up – not because we were tired, but because we were expecting house guests later that day, and I now had two very hyper, dirt-streaked kids to clean up before they arrived.
OK, time for just one more…
On the way back to the car, I set them a final challenge… who could spot the most unusual sight?
Lil Sis nearly had it, with a love note carved into a tree, dated 1975, but just as we got to the car (you can actually see it in the background), Big Sis discovered this curious little gem cut into a tree trunk.
Pipped at the post!
Normally a day running around the woods would wear me out, but there was literally no rest for the wicked, as I had to come home, get the kids bathed, sort the house out for our guests and then finish off some work.
Instead of slumping on the sofa, I managed to power through it all, ticking off the tasks until my ‘To-Do’ list was miraculously clear (a very rare occurence). Was it all down to the Berocca?
I can’t say for sure, but it’s the only thing I’ve been doing differently, and I’m convinced enough to keep taking them.
Maybe I’ll even keep up with the kids on our next scavenger hunt…
PS: edited to add our houseguests arrived safe and sound, and let’s just say it was a late night with plenty of grape juice… *looks innocent*. I offered everyone a Berocca for a much-needed pick-me-up the next morning, and we managed to have a great day out with all the kids!
