OUR SUMMER OF HOME-GROWN FUN // plus, an exciting announcement!

summer festival guide

If you’ve been keeping up with my adventures, you’ll know that we travelled back home to New Zealand for Christmas.

It was amazing, and I loved seeing my family and taking the girls to my homeland for the very first time (you can read more about it in my post HOME SWEET HOME). However, 24 hours of travel there AND back, was gruelling to say the least , so this summer we’re kicking back and staying close to home.

But our staycation will be far from boring: I’m so excited to announce that this year, from July 19-21, we’re going to be PENNFEST ambassadors.

This two-day family friendly festival is held each year in a village in South Buckinghamshire, nestled in the stunning Chiltern Hills. Not only will the grown ups be enjoying a huge line-up of acts – from Maverick Sabre and Becky Hill, to Sigma and Brandon Block (preparing for some serious 90’s clubbing flashbacks!) – but the 2017 KIDS’ KINGDOM is bigger and better than ever.

From kids’ zumba and circus workshops, to toddler soft play and a teen gaming zone, there are activities to appeal to everyone, and all ages. I’m also slightly thrilled by the fact that the Sooty Show Live will also be at PennFest – my girls are probably a teensy bit old for this classic puppet show, but I love the fact they’ll get to see something Mummy used to adore when she was around their age.

Bring your own picnic to the event or choose from a wide variety of food stalls on site, and there are plenty of bars for the big kids. And, if the thought of the festival loos puts you off, you can even splash out on ‘Posh Loo’ tickets, which gain you access to a special section of regularly serviced loos.

I’ve had the ‘authentic’ experience and endured my share of portaloos over the years, so had no hesitation adding these to our weekend package. Comfort and cleanliness aside, these might also appeal to parents of young children or babies who still need to double up in the loos (it’s hard enough fitting one person into those cramped little cabins).

We decided to really throw ourselves into the experience, and will be glamping for the weekend in a boutique bell tent from WOW TENTS. It’ll be our very first family camping adventure, and I can’t wait!

The tents are pretty flash to begin with, and come with airbeds, side tables, rugs and lighting (sure beats one-inch foam camping mat I remember sleeping on as a kid), but as this is essentially our summer holiday we’ve chosen to upgrade to the ‘posh bedding’ package, which gives us a sheets, pillowcases and duvets too.

The Wow Tents site also has access to loos and hot showers. The kids will literally not want to go home.

We’ll be posting all the best bits live from the festival, so make sure you’re following me on TWITTER and INSTAGRAM so you don’t miss my Tweets, photos and Instagram Stories.
