These days the Food Standards Authority would have a conniption, but back then (in the olden days) all the sweets would be laid out in little boxes under the glass counter, in a rainbow of sugary colours.
You'd stand there for ages, trying to work out how to squeeze the very most out of your money. Did you go for ten one cent lollies, or 20 of the two-for-one cent sweets?! I'm getting stressed out just thinking about it.
So it was deliciously nostalgic to see the old-fashioned sweet shop brought back to life on THE GOBSTOPPER website.
Given the chance to try a jar of their Pick & Mix turned out to be a double-edged sword. There was so many sweets to choose from it took me AAAAAAGES to decide what I wanted. It was just like 1978, all over again!
Finally, I made my selection (fizzy snakes, spearmint chews, and sherbert pips, in case you were wondering). A few days later, my jar jammed full of retro sweets was delivered right to my doorstep.
Unfortunately, it's not so jammed now, as I had to carry out exhaustive taste tests on the sweets to ensure they passed quality control. Although now I feel perfectly qualified to recommend them to you all. You're welcome.
In fact I was so impressed I've already gone back and ordered a large jar as a thank-you-for-letting-us-stay-at-your-house gift for some family friends.
That's pretty sweet. Literally.
