Ah, the 80s. They’ve a lot to answer for: leg warmers, side ponytails, fluorescent socks, bubble skirts, Paula Abdul’s musical career…
But they were also kinda awesome too. They brought us Pac-Man, pop music, boot skates, the Walkman, and Simple Simon (man, I loved that game!).
I started college in the 1980s, went to my first concert (Eurythmics, if you’re wondering) got my first full-time job, bought my first car, and suffered my first hangover. Good times. *sigh*
But let’s get to the part you’re really here for – the embarrassing photos!
The top left pic is my birthday, circa 1982. Visors were all the rage at the time (honestly) and that Barbie shower you can see next to me pumped actual water.
The one to the right is an 80s mobile phone, AKA: a pushbutton handset, with a really, really long extension cord that we stretched all the way outside. We’d not long traded in our old dial phone when this pic was taken, so this piece of cutting edge technology was the height of decadence.
Lastly, rollerskating! The freewheeling hobby that cost me two broken arms, and many, many skinned knees. But look how awesome I look in my red t-shirt (tucked in, of course) yellow terry towelling shorts, and knee socks.
Thanks Tara at STICKY FINGERS for this little walk down Memory Lane.
